It came down to the last day of the season, with a win the Flyers take 3rd in the east, with a lost they sit fourth. The Flyers ended up defeating the Nordiques not in convincing fashion, but a win none the less 2 to 1 was the final score.
"It seems like we have spent the last two seasons, staring at the back end of those flightless birds, but we found away to surpass them." Captain Mike Richards said after the games.
The Flyers head into the playoff feeling like the momentum has shifted in there favour. The Flyers managed to win 21 of their last 30 games by some timely play at both ends of the rink. Flyer management consider the first three quarters of the season a bust. "Some thing changed along the way, we began to play like I felt we should of all along. We found a way to increase our offense and managed to keep the puck out of our own net." Flyers GM Joe Trivett
Many Flyers seen there numbers increase this season as well Mike Richards set career highs in goals, assists atnd tallied 21 more points then the season before. Daniel Briere scored less, but passed more at found his points increased by five from the previous season. Joffrey Lupul may have been the biggest surprise coming a goal short of 50 and scroing 34 more points then the previous season. Pominville was less productive this season and just fell a point shy of 100. Chris Higgins off season acqustion was solid in first season in Philly, playing in three less games then last year, but increasing his point total by 10 over the previous year.
The defenseman all contributed in the success of this season. Coburn remained solid at both ends which he was rewared with a contract extension. Erik Johnson showed flashes of what is yet to come, he was solid but was a big contributor on the back end. Tallinder was a solid two way d-man, while managing to surpass expectation on offense. 19 year old d-man Luca Sbisa struggled through an injury plague season but still managed to 32 points in 54 games. Flyers managment feels their is no limit to Sbisa's potential, they believe if he stays healthy next season, who knows what sort of number he could put up.
Flyers are happy with how the season played out, now they look forward to tackling the Nordiques in the 1st round.
